Why your St. Albert bill is higher than your usage
Two things make up your bill. The energy charge is the part a plan changes. Delivery, fixed daily charges, riders and the local fee come with the address, so every home in St. Albert pays them, whatever it uses.
A small home: 250 kWh of electricity a month
Of about $102 a month, $40 is the energy charge you can change by choosing a plan and $62 is what every home in St. Albert pays.
For a small home, most of the bill is charges every home pays. Switching plans changes only the $40 energy part.
A typical home: 600 kWh of electricity a month
Of about $179 a month, $84 is the energy charge you can change by choosing a plan and $95 is what every home in St. Albert pays.
These are estimates for one average month, including 5% GST. The energy part uses the default rate and the default supplier’s daily charge; a plan will price it differently. Your own bill will differ with how much you use.

- Municipal franchise fee, St. Albert: 15% (from 1 January 2023) [source]
- Municipal assessment rider, St. Albert: 1.52% (from 1 July 2026) [source]
Each month is 30.4 days. A percentage fee is worked out on the delivery charges its source names. A fixed daily charge is multiplied by the days in the month.
