What is available today
BillRobin is an Alberta service that checks household electricity and gas bills, free during our launch. Send PDFs of your bills; a photo works too. We compare the plans available at your address. Your result shows what you pay now, the cheapest eligible plans and your estimated saving. We never phone you or come to your door. We never switch your plan.
We cannot compare electricity plans for homes with solar panels that send power to the grid yet. We can still check their gas plan. Your result explains any plans we could not compare and why.
The standard we’re building toward
- Your actual situation. Match service address, usage period and contract conditions. Distinguish measured information from estimates.
- Costs in context. Compare the same period and usage, including relevant fees, taxes, incentives and switching costs. Explain assumptions about future floating rates.
- Clear coverage. Say which eligible offers have been checked, when they were checked, and where information is missing.
- Your interests first. Retailer commissions must not determine which plans we consider or hide a better option. Disclose any commercial relationship that affects a transaction.
- Useful outcomes. Show a change only when its value and practical steps can be explained. Staying put can be the right answer.
How we check facts
Every figure in our guides shows where it comes from and the date we read it. When a source changes, we update the page and its date. If you spot a mistake, email hello@billrobin.com and we will correct it and note the change on the page.
How we publish guides
We use primary sources where possible, link to them and show the review date. Editorial pages are reviewed before publication. We distinguish examples from actual market offers and do not present illustrative calculations as customer savings.
Our launch guides draw on Alberta’s Utilities Consumer Advocate. BillRobin is an independent business and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the UCA, the Alberta government or any retailer mentioned in a source.
What a projection can and cannot tell you
A projection is a calculation under stated assumptions. A household’s future usage, weather, changing market rates and the date a switch takes effect can change the outcome.
Promotions, price changes and missing terms
Introductory rates must be costed over their actual dates, followed by the successor rates. Electricity and gas may start on different days. Seasonal usage, administration fees, bundle eligibility, credits and exit costs can change the result. We do not turn a targeted return offer into a publicly available plan or treat unknown terms as zero cost.
Keeping evidence current
We collect public retailer prices daily. Published guides show their review dates; they are educational sources, not a continuously verified tariff feed. Coverage must count failed and unresolved checks as well as successful ones.
Making corrections and preserving past advice
A changed plan or household fact should trigger a new review. Earlier results and their original comparison baseline remain dated records. New projections must not add the same annual saving twice or be presented as savings already realized.
