The short answer
St. Albert bills garbage by the size of the cart. The city’s own prices show a lower yearly cost for a smaller cart.
The cheaper sizes
- Medium (120 L) instead of Large (240 L): $59.88 a year less for Medium (120 L) than for Large (240 L). The city quotes $5.41 a month and $10.40 a month. Cart charge only. A flat solid waste charge of $10.29 a month is separate and the same for every cart. (read 12 October 2026) [source]
- Small (80 L) instead of Large (240 L): $109.20 a year less for Small (80 L) than for Large (240 L). The city quotes $1.30 a month and $10.40 a month. Cart charge only. A flat solid waste charge of $10.29 a month is separate and the same for every cart. (read 12 October 2026) [source]
The city lists more than one smaller cart. Which one fits your home is your choice. We do not pick one for you.
Price period: The city page labels these as 2026 rates and gives no start date.

This is a saving on a city service. It is separate from any saving on your electricity or gas.
These prices compare the sizes. They do not mean your home has the larger cart now, or that a smaller cart would be enough for your home.
Changing the cart costs what the city says
The yearly saving above does not include any one-time fee to change a cart.
Reducing the cart size is free. Any increase costs a one-time $50 fee.
Who can ask
The city decides who can change a cart and when. Its page explains the rules.
How to ask the city
You ask the city, not BillRobin. BillRobin does not arrange the change.
