How the price trigger works
A GJ, or gigajoule, measures the energy in natural gas.
The Natural Gas Rebate Program pays an automatic rebate when the 'Alberta price', the highest regulated default gas rate that month, goes above $6.50 per GJ. The rebate covers the difference between $6.50 and the Alberta price. (read 5 October 2026) [source]
The Alberta price is a reference for the program. It is not necessarily the energy price on your own plan.
