Local to Canmore

  • The Town bill covers water and waste: Canmore mails its utility bills every two months. The Town account covers base charges for recycling, solid waste, metered water and wastewater, plus charges for water used. Owners can see bills and account balances in Virtual Town Hall and enrol for email delivery. Utility billing, metering and payment enquiries go to 403-678-7134; solid waste and recycling enquiries go to 403-678-1580. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • A property sale needs a final bill request: If you sell a Canmore property, you or your lawyer must request a final utility bill online and give the sale date. A request received after the sale is finalized using the date the Town receives it. The account closes after the final bill is paid in full. Without a termination request, the Town continues billing and collecting water supply charges on the account. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • The Town utility due date: Canmore utility invoices are due on the 25th of the month, or the next business day, as shown on the bill. The Pre-Authorized Utility Payment Plan, called PUPP, withdraws the amount directly from a bank account on that due date. There is no additional charge for the plan. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Automatic payments do not move with you: PUPP is not transferable between Canmore properties. A move within town requires a new application for the new property. The completed application and banking information must reach the Town by the 18th of the month when the first debit is to occur. A banking change requires written notice and a new void cheque or bank debit form. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • The utility account number for bank payments: Add "Town of Canmore Utilities" as the bank payee and enter the nine-digit utility account number without the decimal point. The number belongs to the property, so update the saved account after a move within Canmore. Allow at least three days for bank processing. A payment sent on the due date can receive the next business day's date and be treated as late. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Town payment methods: Canmore does not accept credit cards or Interac e-transfers for utility payments. At Civic Centre reception, residents can pay by cash, debit, cheque or money order during business hours. The drop box beside the main doors at 902 7 Avenue accepts cheques and money orders at any time. Cash must not be mailed or put in that box. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Municipal base charges for a single-family home: For a single-family home with a 15 mm meter, Canmore's 2026 base bill every two months is $274.48. It comprises $36.42 for recycling, $49.20 for solid waste, $75.54 for metered water and $113.32 for wastewater. These municipal services have their own charges apart from the electricity and natural gas worked bill. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Water consumption above the first block: Canmore's 2026 combined water and wastewater consumption rate is $4.310 per cubic metre. Residential consumption above 47 cubic metres in a billing cycle has a 20% surcharge, bringing that combined rate to $5.172 per cubic metre above the threshold. Wastewater is not metered separately: both charges follow the water entering the home through its meter. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Discussing a late Town bill: Canmore applies a 1.5% penalty to outstanding utility balances not paid by the 25th, or the next business day when it falls on a weekend or holiday. Payments go to penalties first, then to the balance. Unpaid utility accounts risk having arrears transferred to property taxes. The Town asks residents to contact its Utility Department to discuss payment options. (read 30 October 2026) [source]
  • Local affordability support: Canmore's Affordable Services Program gives eligible residents access to several community supports through one application. Bring the form and required documents to Family and Community Support Services at the Civic Centre, 902 7 Avenue. Staff can discuss affordability supports with applicants. The program has income limits and requires proof of at least three months of Canmore residency; a utility bill with a Canmore address is one accepted document. Call 403-609-3743 with questions.
