Edmonton: save $60 a year with a smaller garbage cart

How Edmonton prices garbage carts by size, what the city’s own page says, and how to ask the city for a smaller one.

The short answer

Edmonton bills garbage by the size of the cart. The city’s own prices show a lower yearly cost for the smaller cart.

The cheaper size

  • Small (120 L) instead of Large (240 L): $60.00 a year less for Small (120 L) than for Large (240 L). The city quotes $37.63 a month and $42.63 a month. All curbside waste services, not only garbage. (from 1 January 2026) [source]

Price period: The city page says monthly rates are as of January 1, 2026.

Read 12 October 2026.

This is a saving on a city service. It is separate from any saving on your electricity or gas.

These prices compare the sizes. They do not mean your home has the larger cart now, or that a smaller cart would be enough for your home.

Changing the cart costs what the city says

The yearly saving above does not include any one-time fee to change a cart.

Your first exchange is free. After that, the City of Edmonton may charge an $18.50 administrative fee.

Who can ask

The city decides who can change a cart and when. Renters need the landlord (the EPCOR account holder). The rate changes on the day the new cart arrives.

How to ask the city

You ask the city, not BillRobin. BillRobin does not arrange the change.

The city’s page that explains cart changes: Garbage cart maintenance and exchange (City of Edmonton).
